School is in session!!

First Day of School for Avon Public Schools. It was great to be back into a routine and see all my friends and the students. I cannot lie though, it was hard walking into an emtpy house at 3:30 pm - first time in 25 years I have not had one of my kids there!

moving in day for Meg!

Hurricane Irene was bearing down on us as we moved Meg into college this morning!
We were driving home between the belts of downpours and clear weather!
Home safe and sound now!

End of Summer....NO, NO, NO!!

Yes, Yes, Yes..... I'm afraid so. Well, at least we got our lobster and clam rolls from the Cape.

Bristol, RI

Went to visit my old friends Brigid and Lee Ann. Here is Lee as we were catching up on the boardwalk of Bristol Harbor.

Cooling my heels waiting for Bud Man to make it to the finish line of the Falmouth Road Race.

He's almost there! This shot is mile 6.8 of a 7 mile run through woods and along the ocean front of Falmouth, Mass.

Summer + Outdoor Band = Good Times!

We took our weary selves down to Blue Back Square to listen to some live music on the plaza!
Nice way to spend a summer evening.

Pure joy!

"The world’s longest-running civil wars have been ongoing in the Karen and Karenni homelands in eastern Myanmar for sixty years now. A generation of refugees has now been born and reared in the crowded camps, which by law they are forbidden to leave. They live a life of continued uncertainty with no immediate prospects of retuning home." This is from IRC - the International Rescue Committee

I spent the morning driving into Hartford to pick up these Karen kids, who were born in the refugee camps, and taking them to a pool to enjoy a few hours of  swimming. These children are now living in Hartford (one boy has only been in US for 11 days) and they had a wonderful time. A few of them speak English and they interpreted for the rest of us.

We are very proud of you Mike!

Almost two years since this photo was taken,
and Lord knows Mike has done a lot of living since that time.
We miss him every day and support him in this
very unique working environment he is in.
